Metroflor® Corporation takes sustainability very seriously and it shows with the introduction of our Aspecta line of commercial flooring.
Aspecta is the first LVT to achieve NSF/ANSI 332 Platinum Certification.
The NSF/ANSI 332 Sustainability Assessment is a multi-attribute, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) based third-party certification program. This program was designed by the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI) in conjunction with NSF International around the principles of the LCA, in that it looks at products from cradle to grave. This assessment not only looks at the sustainability of the product being certified, but also considers the commitments to sustainability of the manufacturer itself. In essence, NSF/ANSI 332 gives the end-user peace of mind that both the product and the manufacturer are engaged in sustainable practices. When we chose to undergo the NSF/ANSI 332 Sustainability Assessment, we decided to aim high. NSF 332 has four certifications levels – Conformant, Silver, Gold and Platinum. We are excited to announce that Metroflor® Aspecta has been awarded Platinum certification, the highest level available under the standard.
This far-reaching standard provides accurate and verifiable information on the environmental and social aspects of our product through six categories:
You can rest assured that Aspecta and all recommended adhesive systems are created with raw material inputs that are safe for both the human and ecological environment. These claims are further strengthened through our preparation of Product Transparency Declarations (PTD). In addition, Aspecta and all recommended adhesive systems are FloorScore® certified.
Aspecta was put through the rigors of performance testing based on ASTM standards. This testing coupled with the 25 year warranty gives you peace of mind that Aspecta will not only look good, but will perform just as well. Our recommended maintenance products have also been vetted to ensure they are safe and meet volatile organic compound (VOC) standards set by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). And we aren’t stopping here, as we are currently in the process of adding EPA Design for the Environment (DfE) certified products to our current product offering.
End of Life Management
It was crucial that recyclability be considered during the design of Aspecta. With PVC resins that are 100% pure to the use of non-phthalate plasticizers, Aspecta can be recycled safely many times over. Our Revise program offers our installers the option of returning installation cuttings for recycling at no cost.
Aspecta is produced in a facility that is ISO 14001 certified, putting environmental management at the heart of our operations. Our manufacturing facility is constantly making improvements to reduce it’s impact on the environment. From reducing the energy input required to produce Aspecta to minimizing the waste produced, respecting the environment is always at the heart of our operations.
Corporate support is critical in implementing and maintaining a sustainability program. You can rest assured that Metroflor® is fully committed to sustainability both at the product level in how we designed Aspecta but also at the corporate level in how we run our daily operations. Sustainability is not just something we sell through our products, but something that we practice on a daily basis.
When one thinks of innovation and how this applies to the NSF/ANSI 332 Sustainability Assessment, you must understand intent behind the assessment. Innovation comes in many shapes and sizes and it’s easy to focus in on the product level. Metroflor® is always looking to be a leader in innovative ideas that help to shape our industry at the product level. We also understand that innovative ideas exist beyond the product level in areas from manufacturing methods to corporate commitments and these can also have a tremendous impact on leaving the world a better place for both the current and future generations.
